The ingredients needed to make Penne and Pilchards:
  1. Make ready 1 cup penne pasta
  2. Get 1 small tin of pilchards in tomato sauce
  3. Get 1/3 cup pitted black olives, drained
  4. Take 1 tsp tomato ketchup
  5. Prepare 1 a couple of dashes of Worcestershire sauce

When the penne is cooked, drain the penne - reserving some of the water - then put penne into the pilchards, along with a couple of spoonfuls of the pasta cooking water. Give it all a stir, then serve. Really good for a lunch, an emergency dinner or a camping meal. Despite being made from store cupboard ingredients, it is absolutely delicious!

Instructions to make Penne and Pilchards:
  1. Cook the penne in plenty of salty boiling water, stirring occasionally, for about 9 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, in a medium pot, add the other ingredients, and heat them gently over a medium low heat.
  3. Stir the sauce once then turn down the heat to low while the penne cooks.
  4. When the penne is cooked, drain the penne - reserving some of the water - then put penne into the pilchards, along with a couple of spoonfuls of the pasta cooking water.
  5. Give it all a stir, then serve.

Pilchards are very similar to sardines, so use them in place of the pilchards if need be. Fil kettle and put on to boil.
